VacanaMrtam meaning
In Ananda Marga, the word "Vacanāmrtam" (Sanskrit: वचनामृतम्, vacanāmṛtam) is composed of two parts:
Vacana (वचन) = speech, words, sayings, utterances
Amṛta (अमृत) = nectar, immortality, that which gives spiritual life
Therefore, Vacanāmrtam literally means:
"Nectarous words" or "words of immortality."
In the Ananda Marga tradition, Vacanāmrtam refers to the collected spiritual discourses, teachings, and inspirational sayings of Shrii Shrii Anandamurti (P.R. Sarkar). The idea is that these words are like amṛta (nectar) because they nourish the mind and spirit and help a seeker progress toward spiritual realization.
A deeper interpretation often given in Ananda Marga is:
Vacanāmrtam = those words which liberate the mind from ignorance and lead it toward the Infinite Consciousness (Brahma).
Chinese translation:
Vacanāmrtam (वचनामृतम्) = 甘露圣言 (gānlù shèngyán)
or 不死甘露般的教诲
or simply 圣训集 (collection of sacred teachings)
So when you see a citation such as "Vacanāmrtam" in Ananda Marga literature, it usually means the teaching comes from one of Baba's spiritual discourses recorded in the Vacanāmrtam series.
Interestingly, the concept is similar to the Sanskrit phrase "amṛta-vākya" ("nectar-like words"), meaning words that awaken spiritual consciousness rather than merely convey information.
